About this time last year, Compañeros began receiving donations from hundreds of individuals who supported our stance against a Catholic foundation's discriminating policy. Of course it should come as no surprise that the policy in question practically defines what the church's doctrine upholds, that homosexuality is immoral and therefore supporting a non-profit organization that fights for civil unions or gay rights cannot be funded out of the Catholic coffers. Whether you agree with this or not, the fact is that Compañeros is first and foremost an organization focused on immigrant rights. Our funds and efforts are used exclusively towards achieving the goals listed on our goals page and with the guidance of the philosophies also listed here on our website. As the support of so many generous individuals poured in, we realized how important it was to take a stand for equal rights and that regardless of gender expression or sexual preference, Compañeros would continue to support immigrants and their loved ones. Though we recouped double the funds we lost, the future support of the organization is still in question. We continue to search for new funding sources to fill the $30,000 gap we expect in 2014 and 2015 grant years.
